…LAST WORDS

And then, at the end of the movie, she pointed her finger at her fears and out from her finger came a beam of pure unadulterated light. As light poured onto her demons they evaporated. Suddenly her heart became lighter and she became even more beautiful. And so not to forget the lessons her helpful demons showed her, she gave her gratitude’s every day for all that she knows and for all the joy and peace she feels and asks to stay humble but to live as a queen.

TEA!

Tea (& Not Tea) 101

WHAT IS TEA?

Tea comes from the Camellia Sinensis bush, known as the Tea Plant. The leaves and buds of the tea plants are plucked several times per year (flushes), processed into black tea, oolong tea, green tea or white tea. The difference between each of these categories is oxidization. Oxidization is the process where the tea leaf interacts with oxygen and turns dark. Green tea is un-oxidized, black tea is oxidized, and oolong tea is semi-oxidized. Like wine, tea can be named after it’s estate, region or varietal.

WHAT ISN’T TEA?

Any infusion that does not come from the Camelia Senesis plant is not tea. Some popular infusions include rooibos, honeybush, yerba mate and herbal/ medicinal blends

HEALTH BENEFITS OF TEA

Tea has recently been a popular subject in health research.  Loads of  potential  health benefits have been discovered including: anti-cancer properties, increases metabolic rate, possible anti-diabetes effect, increases mental alertness, boosts immune system, lowers chances of cognitive impairment, lowers stress hormone levels. Because white and green teas have under gone less processing, they contain more benefits than black. However, studies show that oolong tea is better for weight loss because of it’s increased polyphenol levels.

ROOIBOS

Pronounced Roy-boss. Rooibos is grown only in a small area in the Cedarberg of the Western Cape province of South Africa. Like tea, the leaves are typically oxidized and the non-oxidized plant is called green rooibos. In South Africa it is more common to drink rooibos with milk and sugar, but elsewhere it is usually served without. Rooibos is non caffeinated and works well as a sleep aid, contains high levels of  polyphenols, is used as an anti-carcinogenic, and an anti-inflammatory.

YERBA MATE

Yerba Mate, pronounced Yerb-ah Matt-ay, is consumed mainly in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, southern Chile, eastern Bolivia and southern Brazil. It is traditionally drank from a hollow gourd through a metal straw called a
bombilla. It’s flavor can be described as grassy, earthy, smoky, slightly bitter. Maté contains xanthines, which are alkaloids in the same family as caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine, well-known stimulants also found in coffee and chocolate. Yerba Mate contains 11 amino acids and is the only infusion considered a super food. Health research claims that Yeba Mate burns calories, improves digestion,  contains  antioxidants,  increases  mental  awareness.

MATCHA

A Japanese tradition nearly 900 years old, Matcha is made from shade grown green tea which has been de-vained, de-stemmed and ground in a stone mill into a fine, bright green, talc-like powder. The anti oxidant levels in Matcha are unparalleled to any tea or beverage in the world, contains high chlorophyll levels, beta carotene and boosts metabolic rate by 35-40% in regular drinkers, thus assisting in weight loss. Matcha provides a beautiful energy boost lasting for up to 7 hours. Traditional Matcha is prepared in a bowl with a bamboo whisk, but combined with hot milk and sugar, makes one of our most popular lattes.

hey melissa! thanks for the feedback. our hours of operation can be found on our website:: http://www.chaibaba.ca 10 – 6 Mon thru Thurs 10 – 5 Fri & Sat AND 12 – 5 Sun.. As far as thoughts on lemonade .. welllllll……. real lemonade is always the best – fresh organic lemons in a reamer and organic cane sugar or even better agave syrup! Mix with filtered or spring water.. OR Add a strong infusion of your favorite tea in place of the water.. But that’s not really economic for a lemonade stand.. For that you could try a lemon concentrate and cane sugar together.. each drink could be shaken with ice in a martini shaker.. Those are my thoughts! Good luck!
